David Lee Roth has announced his retirement from the stage. The Van Halen singer made the announcement in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“I’m retiring. This is the first and only official announcement of that… You have the news. Share it with the world.”
The singer, who will turn 67 on Oct. 10, plans to hold his last concerts in Las Vegas. A series of five performances is planned for the New Year’s season: two concerts will take place just before New Year’s, and three more on Jan. 5, 7 and 8, 2022.
Lee Roth recently released a new video for the song “Lo-Rez Sunset,” composed of the musician’s own drawings. It is the last of five tracks from the soundtrack of David’s webcomic “The Roth Project,” which was released last fall. In it, the artist acted as writer, artist, and, of course, songwriter and performer. He was assisted by John 5 on guitar and bass, Greg Bissonnette and Louis Conte on drums, and Brett Tuggle on keyboards.
Recall that on October 6, 2020, Wolfgang announced on his Twitter account that his brother Eddie Van Halen had died of cancer, putting the band’s future in great uncertainty. His death comes just ten days after the death of original Van Halen bassist Mark Stone, also of cancer. In his November 2020 interview with Howard Stern, Wolfgang Van Halen confirmed the end of the Van Halen band, stating, “You can’t have Van Halen without Eddie Van Halen.”
